Patrick Vieira wants New York City FC to have different identity from Manchester City

Much of the criticism surrounding New York City FC since its inception has been around the club’s relationship with Manchester City FC.

New York City FC has been referred to as “Manchester City B” or the club’s “farm team.”

New head coach Patrick Vieira, who was formally introduced to the media Wednesday, wants to keep the two separate and give New York City FC, which failed to qualify for the playoffs its first season in Major League Soccer in 2015, its own identity.

Jon Patricof named New York City FC President

Another season, another club president.

New York City FC on Wednesday named Jon Patricof as the club’s president.

Patricof, the former President and COO of Tribeca Enterprises, parent company of Tribeca Film Festival and related activities, will begin the role in March ahead of New York City FC’s second season in Major League Soccer.

Former New York City FC defender Shay Facey joins Rotherham United on loan

Former New York City FC defender Shay Facey has joined Rotherham United of the English League Championship on loan for the remainder of the season, the club announced Saturday.

Facey, 20, is manager Neil Redfearn’s first signing of the January transfer window.

Abby Wambach bashes ‘foreign guys’ on United States Men’s National Soccer Team

Mix Diskerud was on Cloud 9 when he signed with New York City FC on Jan. 13.

“Obviously I’m an American and now I have a chance to live in the States and I haven’t had that chance yet,” he later told me leading up to his debut season in the country. “That’s something I’ve been looking forward to.”

The midfielder was born in Oslo, Norway, to an American mother and Norwegian father. Mix played his entire professional soccer career in Norway until signing with New York City FC ahead of their inaugural season in Major League Soccer.

No surprises as New York City Football Club announce roster changes

There were no jaws on the floor or heads being scratched on Friday afternoon when New York City Football Club announced their roster changes following the 2015 Major League Soccer campaign.

According to the release, the 2016 contract options on defenders Jeb Brovsky and Kwame Watson-Siriboe and midfielders Ned Grabavoy and Pablo Alvarez were declined.

The contract of midfielder Sebastian Velasquez expired.
